NCCU Internships

Project IMPACT NC (Integrated Mental and Physical Health Access for the Care and Treatment of North Carolina youth/families)—a partnership between DukeWELL and North Carolina Central University’s Counselor Education program—is intended to address the mental, physical, and medical health care needs of youth and families in underserved counties from an integrated behavioral health approach. DukeWELL’ s intention through this partnership is to provide needed behavioral resources within the network and to support the development of future Integrated behavioral health clinicians.

HOPE Internships

The HOPE Collaborative intern will help create a database of facilities in the HOPE Collaborative that will include contact information for all of their key staff along with identifying bed capacity, special admission circumstances, insurances accepted, and specific conditions accepted at each SNF, such as bariatric patients, trachs, LVADs, TPN, IV antibiotics, wound vacs, etc. This will be used by DukeWELL care managers, referral coordinators, and others to help expedite the referral process and find appropriate facilities to provide care.

Autumn Dixon is a Master of Healthcare Administration student at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Sociology from North Carolina State University, where her studies sparked a lasting interest in healthcare disparities and the social factors that shape patients’ experiences within the healthcare system. Autumn currently serves as secretary of the MHA Graduate Student Association, supporting student engagement and professional development. She also completed a pharmacy support specialist internship at the Open Door Clinic, where she filled medications for uninsured adults and gained firsthand insight into the importance of patient-centered care for underserved populations. She is eager to contribute to Duke PHMO's HOPE Collaborative while building a career focused on equitable, patient-centered population health management.

I am a second-generation Taiwanese-American entering my last year of study at the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at North Carolina Central University. I obtained my Bachelor's in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles and have previously worked alongside youth on the spectrum, as well as youth and adults with eating disorders. I am passionate about exploring what wellness means for each individual and creating safe spaces that honor all aspects of my clients’ stories.

I am a clinical mental health counseling graduate student at NC Central University. I have a background in public administration and most recently worked as a case manager in a behavioral health urgent care. I enjoy supporting people in navigating complex problems, uncertainty, and the process of creating meaning.

NCCU Intern

Before coming to mental health counseling, I worked for over 30 years as a ballet teacher. I've grown to love building relationships and helping people feel empowered to reach their goals and to recognize their strengths. I'm especially drawn to storytelling as a therapeutic tool and the use of narrative approaches in clinical settings to help clients make meaning of their experiences and author new possibilities for themselves.

I’m currently a counseling student specializing in mental health and addictions counseling. I’m passionate about understanding people’s experiences and supporting them through challenges related to emotional well-being and substance use. What I enjoy most about this work is the opportunity to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where individuals can feel heard and empowered. I’m especially interested in implementing evidence-based approaches that promote resilience, healing, and long-term growth.

I am a trauma-informed counseling student at NCCU pursuing dual licensure in clinical mental health and addictions treatment. My undergraduate education focused on political science, public policy, and history. As a former military wife of 20 years, I have extensive non-profit experience in diverse locations across the US with an intimate understanding of the needs of our veteran community. Other populations I have served include young children in under-resourced communities, incarcerated women, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. As a third generation citizen, I am passionate about confronting systemic barriers and work to reclaim, restore, and expand on the inherent dignity each person possesses. I am truly honored to begin my counseling journey as an intern with the integrated healthcare team at Duke PHMO and DukeWELL.
