I love caring for people, especially the geriatric population. I have worked in retirement communities, nursing homes, hospitals, and primary care clinics. I am a team player and a fast learner. I enjoy assisting patients reach their optimal health.
I began my nursing career in 2016, and I have experience in emergency care, hospice, dialysis, wellness leadership, and home health. I am a licensed clinical social worker with ten years of experience across healthcare, school-based, and mental health settings. Originally from rural North Carolina, I earned both a BSW and MSW from North Carolina Central University and am currently pursuing a PhD with research focused on stress among school-based social workers.
Since joining Duke in February 2020, I have gained experience in cardiothoracic surgery, PACU, retinal injection services, triage nursing, and nursing leadership. I am passionate about building meaningful relationships with patients and supporting them in achieving their wellness goals.
I began my nursing career on a medical-surgical unit at Duke Regional Hospital (DRH), where I developed a strong clinical foundation. I later transitioned to the Cardiovascular Short Stay Unit at Duke University Hospital (DUH). The majority of my nursing career has been spent at Davis Ambulatory Surgical Center, where I have held a variety of roles. My experience includes serving as a preceptor, charge nurse, perioperative nurse, and pre-anesthesia interview nurse.
As a clinical nurse III with an MSW and MMCi, I combine clinical expertise, social work perspective, and informatics knowledge to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. I have experience working with diverse patient populations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to improve outcomes and care coordination. I am a native of NC with some family roots in Durham, NC. I have been a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) for 16+ years. I received degrees from both NC Central University and NC A&T State University. My background includes community mental health, vocational rehabilitation, ED behavioral health, and care management. I am very passionate about helping others and very patient-centered. I love to empower patients and advocate on their behalf.
