LATCH Participates in Community Health Surveys

Several members of the Local Access to Coordinated Health Care (LATCH) care management team participated in Durham County’s Community Health Assessment Surveys during October 13 and 14, 2016.

LATCH’s bilingual staff, Liliana Marin, Maria Elisa Padilla, Alma Ramirez, Yholima Vargas-Pedroza, Maricela Caceres and Katherine Ruiz traveled door-to-door to randomly selected addresses throughout the county from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to conduct the Community Health Opinion Survey (CHOS) in an approximately 20-minute long Spanish-language interview.

Conducted every three years, the assessment identifies community assets, needs and health priorities in Durham County.

Questions asked on this survey included identifying the most important community and health problems in the county, access to healthcare, emergency preparedness, and personal demographics. All data collected in this survey is anonymous and will not be linked to any individual.

The Community Health Opinion Survey is the first stage in the 2017 Community Health Assessment. Along with the survey, local, state and national data will be collected on the leading causes of death, incidence of diseases, current health priorities, and participation in healthy lifestyle behaviors, among many others.

Durham County’s current health priorities include: Access to Healthcare, Education, HIV/STDs, Mental Health and Substance Use, Obesity and Chronic Illness, and Poverty. A comprehensive report will be released to the community in spring 2018.
